Sustainability
HiSO takes pride in taking an ecologically conscious approach to every step of a garment’s creation. Whether it’s alpaca, cashmere, wool or shearling, we partner with other eco-conscious companies, ensuring the best practices and materials are used to protect the environment.
Ethically sourced shearling
Our shearling is a by-product of the food industry. In using this product, we are essentially reclaiming materials that would otherwise be discarded, therefore creating waste. Our shearlings are natural materials sourced from tanneries that support international traceabilty standards that govern animal by-products from their origin until the point they are generated for end-use.
Shared Values
HiSO partners with suppliers that maintain like-minded views regarding the importance of sustainability. We prioritize partners who hold globally recognized certifications to ensure the safety and integrity of our materials. These certifications include:
• Compliance with REACH: The European Union’s strict standards for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals. This guarantees that our garments are free from harmful substances for both the artisans in our atelier and the clients who wear them, protecting both human health and the environment.
• OEKO-TEX® Certification: While REACH is a mandatory legal framework in Europe and Turkey, OEKO-TEX® is an additional voluntary certification that many of our partners hold. Our suppliers utilize this independent testing and certification system to verify that every component of the material—from dyes to finishes—has been tested for harmful chemicals and is safe for consumer use.
• LWG (Leather Working Group) Gold Status: We align ourselves with tanneries audited for excellence in chemical management and environmental oversight, specifically regarding water and waste management.
The benefits of these collaborations include a shared commitment to:
• Clean Water: Utilizing advanced purification and filtration systems.
• Clean Energy: Prioritizing energy-efficient processing.
• Emissions Reduction: Lowering emissions through modern tanning technologies.
• Recycling: Minimizing waste through precision and resource recovery.
By leveraging the expertise of these certified facilities, we can focus on our passion—crafting luxury shearling—knowing that the foundational materials meet the world's most demanding safety and sustainability criteria.
